“What’s happening?” screamed Mr. Clarke. It was not long after Wakey Shakey and Mr. Clarke had returned to his office. His cup was full of steaming coffee and the days work was laid out in front of him. He had thought the assembly had gone well and chuckled to himself at the thought of spending the whole day in pyjamas, like the children. A sleep over! What a good idea for World Book Day.
It was then that he had put the fluffy cowhide slippers on and realised that something was not quite right.
Chapter 1
He looked around his office. A Gruffalo picture that Callum, a Year 6 pupil had drawn him, was hung on the opposite wall to where it usually was. “That’s odd”, he mumbled to himself. Then he realised that his screen saver, which was usually a photograph of his beautiful children, was now a Gruffalo! He froze in astonishment. With eyebrows raised and mouth open, he slowly looked around the room. He was totally flummoxed.
“Somebody’s playing a trick on me” he said out loud, although nobody was there to hear him. Mr. Clarke thought carefully about who could be the trickster. Taking a sip of his coffee, he began to pace around his room. Suddenly he became aware of somebody watching him. His heart raced as he began to feel uncomfortably nervous. Then he noticed, out of the corner of his eye, the Gruffalo’s gleaming orange eyes on the computer screen were following his every move!
Chapter 2
And then the door slowly squeaked open. There was a brown big hairy foot. Mr. Clarke saw two hairy hands and then he saw the Gruffalo’s body. Mr. Clarke saw his sharpe, shining teeth. The Gruffalo jumped through the door and scared Mr. Clarke. Mr. Clarke screamed. He picked up his coffee and dropped it all over the floor. Mr. Clarke quickly hid under his desk.
Chapter 3
THUMP! THUMP! THUMP! Mr. Clark could hear the Gruffalo’s footsteps getting closer and closer. Tightly, Mr. Clarke closed his eyes and counted to ten. He opened them again – the Gruffalo was still there!
The Gruffalo sniffed the air, then headed towards the spoilt coffee. As it slurped up the puddle of coffee, Mr. Clarke made a run for it/ Quickly, he sprinted through the door and bumped straight into Mrs. Singleton.
“Help me” panted Mr. Clarke, “There’s a Gruffalo in my office!”. “Nonsense.” Replied Mrs. Singleton. “There’re no such things as Groffaloes – you’ve had too much coffee”.
Mr. Clarke decided to prove he was telling the truth. He took Mrs. Singleton outside the school and they peered cautiously through the office window. The Gruffalo was still there, tearing apart the office as it looked for more coffee. Mrs. Singleton took one look at it, screamed and ran out of the school gates.
Chapter 4
Mrs. Singleton ran away very fast, but Mr. Clarke was feeling very brave/. He decided to go back inside to try and save the school from the Gruffalo.
Mr. Clarke tiptoed quietly into the staffroom, so the Gruffalo did not hear him. Mr. Clarke could hear the Gruffalo, ripping up all of his work that he had left on his desk. Mr. Clarke decided to make enough coffee to leave a long trail, to tempt the Gruffalo away from his office.
Chapter 5
Mr. Clarke made a trail of coffee near the staff room. The Gruffalo followed Mr. Clarke. Mr. Clarke bumped into Mr. McGowan. “What are you doing?” I’ve just cleaned that floor”, Mr. McGowan said. “Sorry” said Mr. Clarke, “I am trying to get the Gruffalo to follow me”.
The Gruffalo followed Mr. Clarke to a book. Mr. Clarke spilled the coffee on the book and the Gruffalo jumped on the book and landed on the page. The Gruffalo got smaller and stuck to the page. The book was called ‘The Gruffalo’ It became Mr. Clarke’s favourite book.
The End.
